Poets & Writers Receives $50,000 Grant from the Literary Arts Emergency Fund

New York, NY—April 20, 2022—Poets & Writers has been awarded a grant of $50,000 from the Literary Arts Emergency Fund.

The fund—made possible by a grant from the Mellon Foundation—is administered by the Academy of American Poets, the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses (CLMP), and the National Book Foundation.

“This crucial support will help Poets & Writers maintain and expand essential services that creative writers nationwide rely on us to provide,” said Melissa Ford Gradel, executive director of Poets & Writers. “The literary arts are chronically underfunded even in the best of times, so we applaud the Mellon Foundation for this much-needed investment in the field, and applaud our colleagues at the Academy, CLMP, and the National Book Foundation for leading this effort.”

This year the Literary Arts Emergency Fund will distribute $4,300,000 to 313 nonprofit literary arts organizations and publishers that were financially impacted by the pandemic. The full list of grantees is available here.
